The 5 Most Common Transcript Errors

These are the issues admissions offices flag most often on homeschool transcripts:

  1. No school name. A transcript with only a family name but no school name cannot be processed by most college systems. Pick a school name and put it in the header.
  2. Undisclosed weighted GPA. A GPA above 4.0 with no explanation of the weighting system raises an immediate red flag. Always label and explain weighted GPAs.
  3. No grading scale. An A means nothing without knowing what percentage range it represents. Include the scale on the transcript itself.
  4. Courses listed without credit values. Every course must show how many credits it is worth. Without credit values, the GPA calculation cannot be verified.
  5. Submitted as an editable Word file. Always send PDFs. An editable transcript signals that the document is not a finalized official record.
